BASIC INFO: Organisation: Ananda Gaorii Ashram, Farm and Learning Center; Activity location: Holbækvej 56, 4560 Vig Denmark; Start: 01/03/2021 to 31/03/2022; Duration: 40 weeks; Deadline to apply: No application deadline; Activity topics: Environment and natural protection, Health and wellbeing, Creativity and culture
This is an experiential learning project focusing on spirituality, sustainability and community. It is located at Ananda Gaorii Ashram, Farm and Learning Center one hour drive from Copenhagen. Ananda Gaorii offers retreats and workshops on the topics of yoga and meditation, health, art and creativity, personal growth, organic food growing, alternative economic models and other topics associated with personal and social change. We also host volunteers from around the world seeking a more meaningful and sustainable way of life. We have an organic bakery and grow organic veggies in our garden. Meditation is a major part of our daily routine and we follow a vegetarian diet. Volunteer tasks include mostly garden work, bee-keeping, renovation and construction, cooking and cleaning, event organizing and hosting, community activities and group facilitation, social media promotion and marketing. As we live in a community, we do regular household chores to maintain the house.
ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
Accommodation is provided in shared rooms and dormitories depending on the number of volunteers present. Vegetarian food is also provided. Public transport is available to the nearby town of Vig and to Copenhagen. Note: The food we eat is a combination of food we grow, purchase and collect from what the supermarkets throw away. Collected food is a significant part of our diet. It enables us to support a larger number of volunteers, reduce food waste and do food sharing. Please consider the diet carefully before applying, especially if you are used to eating meat and fish.
TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY
Volunteers will be given guidance and coaching in meditation and those who have an interest and aptitude can also take yoga teacher training that happens throughout the year. Organic food growing is learned through practice (from other volunteers with varying skill levels and from personal research and experimentation) and there are workshops on permaculture and various DIY topics. Weekly classes on yoga philosophy are offered. Volunteers will learn various practical skills such as vegetarian cooking, group facilitation and handyman skills through participation in the daily work of the Ashram.
We seek volunteers with a strong interest in community living and ready to take an active role in community life. The priority is given to those skilled in 1) gardening, permaculture, bee-keeping, carpentry, car/bike/appliance repair, cooking; 2) group facilitation, youth work, conflict resolution, NVC; 3) event planning, social media, marketing, graphic design, video production, fund-raising, project & people management; 4) teaching yoga and meditation. Volunteers should have a strong interest in meditation – prepared to practice on a daily basis. Cigarettes, drugs & alcohol not permitted.
HOW TO APPLY:
We will study carefully all applications and selected candidates will be invited for a Skype interview. The selection of volunteers will take place in the upcoming weeks.
For the selection of the volunteers we will need:
– Europass CV with picture (made in the last month) with Skype username included.
– Motivational letter, writing that your sending organisation will be “Enjoy Sicily”. We ask all candidates to send a specific letter of motivation – why they want to volunteer with us rather than just a general EVS one. The volunteer is chosen according to his/her motivation and interest in the project and the activities. It will be paid special attention to cover letters.
